• Congratulations to the Class of 2013!
  Newport News Public Schools is proud to present the top graduates from each of its six high schools. These young men and women have been accepted to some of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in the nation and are among nearly 2,000 students who have completed their high school education secure in the knowledge that Newport News Public Schools has prepared them to be college, career and citizen-ready.
• Heritage & Menchville excel in financial literacy
  Two Newport News Public Schools are among the top high schools in the country when it comes to providing students with a solid financial education.
• Gov. Health Science Academy at Warwick High
  Newport News Public Schools and the York County School Division are partnering to establish a Governor's Health Sciences Academy at Warwick High School and Bruton High School.
• 2013-2014 Teachers of the Year
  Congratulations to Newport News Public Schools 2013-14 teachers of the year, honored at a banquet May 9. Dwana Cooper, a teacher at Gildersleeve Middle School, is Middle School and District Teacher of the Year.
• 10-pt grading scale takes effect Sept. 2013
  The School Board has approved a new, 10-point grading scale, to take effect during the 2013-14 school year.
• New SOL tests increase rigor
  This year, the Virginia Department of Education is implementing more rigorous English, mathematics, and science standards to better prepare students to meet national and international benchmarks for college and career readiness.
