Fine Arts

In every culture, the Fine Arts teach us much about every historical period through its literature, visual arts, music, dance, and drama. We recognize that to be truly well educated one must not only learn to appreciate the arts, but must have rich opportunities to actively participate in creative work.

Visual Arts

The visual arts provide unique insights into the nature and history of mankind. Through the arts we are able to see both the individual and universal characteristics of human beings across cultural and historical epochs.

Music and Theatre Arts

Every student in Newport News Public Schools deserves a comprehensive education. Music and theatre education isn't reserved for a few talented pupils, but is made available to our entire student body. Everyone can benefit from the study of music and theatre!

Summer Institute for the Arts

The Summer Institute for the Arts offers an intensive six-week program in dance, theatre arts, music, visual arts, and creative writing each summer. Students are selected by a panel of area artists and educators on the basis of written applications, auditions, review or portfolios, and interviews.
